Maro Avrabou and Dimitri Xenakis

Maro Avrabou, visual artist and light designer works in both the field of visual arts and those of theater, dance, and opera.
Dimitri Xenakis, visual artist, is working in and with the landscape,
constantly renewing his artistic language to interact with the environment.
They live in France and work in Europe, Asia, and South America.
The two collaborate on works co-signed that question living spaces, points of view, forms and light.
They work on all kind of projects dealing with urban and natural
landscape.
Their projects deal with the landscape, the built and the light.
Their installations, often monumental in size, are a dialogue with the sites, their morphology, their history, their identity.
The social and environmental aspect and the human dimension are
important elements of this approach: the consideration of the specificity of a site and the look that one can wear on it.
Based on this, Maro Avrabou and Dimitri Xenakis work to create the link between the existing and the artistic intervention.

For millennia in this country, the shape of the parallelepiped expresses the
constitution of an inhabited space, the materialization of a territory, an
emergence of human society and culture..
Our installation consists of several volumes reminiscent of one or more dwellings.
We use thorny bushes which are a local material.
We place these bushes inside structures made of wire mesh.
The work fits perfectly into the landscape by its texture while its geometric aspect contrasts with the
environment.

For millennia the installation of man has resulted in the layout of an area. It is a founding act; it is an establishment. The layout defines an orientation in the landscape, it creates the notions of interior and exterior. We chose the square, it is a stable form, a diagram which symbolizes the field, the cardinal points. It is also the basic module of the family home whose repetition forms a village, a city. Its geometry contrasts with the chaotic appearance of nature, like a sign of civilization. We work with materials related to the landscape and society of the Cyclades. Thorny bushes (4‐5 species) are ubiquitous plants. Rebar and welded mesh are modern construction materials used by the inhabitants to delimit and protect crops. At a certain distance, with the play of shadow and light, our installation merges with the small agricultural refuges in the mountain.
